Below are the most notable NBA players born on Nov 1.
Joe Caldwell (1941): Caldwell was the second overall pick in the 1964 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. He finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting and steadily improved throughout his career. He spent his first six seasons in the NBA and closed his career with five seasons in the ABA. Throughout his 11-year career, Caldwell averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 steals. He also made four All-Star appearances between 1969 and 1973, averaging 18.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.2 steals in that span. Caldwell finished fourth in MVP voting in 1972 when he played for the Carolina Cougars in the ABA and retired three years later. He is also the grandfather of Marvin Bagley III, who currently plays for the Washington Wizards.
Derek Smith (1961): Smith was the 35th overall pick in the 1982 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors. In his third year in the league, Smith found his rhythm with the Los Angeles Clippers following the move from San Diego to LA in 1984. Smith averaged 22.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. The two-year stretch in L.A. was the best period of Smith’s career.
